πŸŽƒ End of a Successful Spooky Season πŸŽƒ

One of the pros to having a healthy and active social life is being more motivated to take part in festivities and making plans. Armed with a solid group of friends, some old and new, taking part in things has been a lot less difficult to do. I was actually able to attend quite a few Halloween themed activities this year, both on and off campus. I ended up having three looks this season, and I'm super happy with how they all turned out.

First up is Pokemon Trainer.

As an avid Pokemon Go player, especially during the school year, I felt it was fitting to get out this old backpack and throw a look together. I won that backpack back in high school at a costume competition my local library was having - I was dressed as Fiona (Finn's official gender bend) from 'Adventure Time'. I had both a fem and masc fit planned out, I like having options that express my identity - not knowing how I'd feel the morning of the party. Decided on a masc look due to how I was feeling that day and ended up super happy with how it turned out. I loved how all my reds matched ♥️

Second look was Poison Ivy.

Thanks to good ol' Walmart coming in clutch with the $17 steal of a costume. I definitely partied harder than it was intended for - evidently by the loss of sequins and leaves throughout the night. Overall would give this a 8/10, I was able to go braless which is practically impossible for me. Very impressed with the quality.

Third look was simply a pumpkin.

Utilizing the headband from the Poison Ivy costume that I forgot to wear before and a bright orange sweater, I fashioned a cute but festive outfit for school today. Peep the pumpkin I had painted at school a few days prior. Made a spooky forest with yellow poui flowers. I've noticed I paint those flowers often, I miss seeing the tall yellow poui trees back in Jamaica that would make the entire ground a yellow carpet. They were festive in their own way, maybe that's why I paint them any chance I get.

Highlight of the day was seeing this guy while getting lunch. Super cool fur suit based off Lucario (A Pokemon I LOVE), I was totally freaking out. He was so nice, I really appreciated him taking a pic with me. My friends kept poking fun at me for blushing lol, I'm all for things odd and people weird. The world needs more weird (pls weird responsibly and within reason y'all).

I'm looking forward to ending the year with an even more motivated, confident and determined version of myself leading the way. God willing, the folks who've come to know me and have changed my life will stick around and we'll continue creating fun memories to look back on. Now on to November (γƒŽ^_^)γƒŽ

Nonconsensual but Sanctioned: The Negro Representative

To walk into a room, a space, and find yourself being examined Every detail of your countenance being microscopically observed Studied, picked apart and concluded on- A black person disallowed from individuality & personhood. The laughing group of black people in a public space- the stares, The murmurs, the sighs- the disapproval of black joy How dare they make noise? How dare they be loud? The censorship of black hair, black attitude, black perspective, black ingenuity-  BLACK BODIES We can find ourselves policed everywhere for not following guidelines that were never truly handed to us on a personal level- a broad stroke of social rules to follow. We must remember that when we empower ourselves, as a race of people, we must not forget to grant each other personhood- a leave from this job we are tasked with in our day to day. See each other not through their eyes but our own- see the individual and FORCE others to see the individual as well. For we will never be free of this r...

Short Story Review: "An Adventure in Paris” by Guy de Maupassant

The Most Anticlimactic of Escapades “Disappointment forever lurked just beyond the edges of her joy, ready to spring like a ravenous cougar.”     - Kathleen Rice Adams, Prodigal Gun  In “An Adventure in Paris” by Guy de Maupassant the subject of the story is a woman dissatisfied with her life. The narrator refers to her as a “little person from the provinces” suggesting she is not of a lavish lifestyle. She is a wife, mother and homemaker; exactly what a woman should be yet she yearned for more. Sexual exploration and being a participant in group sex was her main fantasy, those thoughts being her escape from the everyday boredom she experienced. Even while next to her sleeping husband, those thoughts ran through her mind. The lives of the wealthy appealed to her, “ she was continuously thinking of Paris and read the fashionable papers eagerly.” She was naive, adventurous and ready to change her life. Once she got the nerve to go, there was no stopping her; her ...

Ethics of mandating vaccination from healthcare workers

Healthcare workers are members of the working class that gain income from directly caring for and treating the sick and ailing. They are responsible for the maintenance of the hygiene, nutrition, clinical treatment and rehabilitation of those unable to keep up with their own care while recovering from disease and injury. As voluntary members of this group of laborers, healthcare workers (HCWs) acknowledge that the welfare of their patients usurps any personal feelings or ideals they may have as part of their professional obligations; just as a convicted rapist is expected to get the same standard of care for their ailments as any other patient in the healthcare setting. Similarly to how HCWs don’t choose their patients, they also don’t decide the types of care plans or preventative measures to be put in place- governing bodies of health science research and the biomedical sciences inform healthcare schools, institutions and workers of what is effective treatment and prevention.  In...
